8th Grade Math

8th Grade Math

This demo shows a pre-submission flow where the Feedback Aide engine provides feedback directly to learners, often before they submit a response for grading. The presubmission workflow can be helpful in reducing failed submissions, shortening the feedback cycle, and improving learner engagement and outcomes on the given assignment. This task asks the learner to estimate a non-perfect square root and explain their thinking. This question may be used, for example, after a lesson on square roots or as practice before a summative test.

How to use this demo

1. Select a sample student response, or enter your own.
2. Under 'Additional inputs', change the language of the feedback or turn on topic check.
3. Click 'Submit for grading.'
4. Review the scores and feedback for your response!

Why use Pre-Submission in STEM?

Help learners check their work.
In this workflow, Feedback Aide analyzes a student’s math or science response against the rubric requirements and provides immediate, actionable guidance on both accuracy and reasoning. This allows students to identify errors, clarify their explanations, and improve multi-step solutions before final submission.

  • Highlights gaps in reasoning or calculation before grading
  • Guides learners to revise explanations and show their thinking clearly
  • Reinforces correct application of math and science concepts
  • Reduces failed submissions and supports stronger first-attempt work
