Feedback Aide

4th Grade Science

This demo shows Feedback Aide's ability to apply analytic rubrics across multiple Science and English Language Arts standards, tracking opinion strength, evidence use, and writing mechanics. Notice the contrast between students who rely only on personal opinion versus those who reference sources like 'Recycling for Kids'. Toggling between the two responses reveals shows the contrasting feedback to the learners. Teachers always stay in charge, with every score and comment easy to edit. The criteria-based nature of the rubric allows for numerous standards or learning objectives to be assessed in one response. Responses 1, 2, and 3 show varying degrees of mastery, as can be seen by the feedback.

What should I do?
1. Start by clicking 'Generate Feedback' for each response.
2. After these are scored by Feedback Aide, review the 'Summary of feedback' to see the justifications behind the scores.
3. Need to change something? Use Manual Grading to fine-tune the feedback, then click 'Save/Submit scores' when you’re ready.

What is an analytic rubric?
An analytic rubric in educational assessment is a scoring guide that breaks down a student’s performance into multiple distinct criteria, each evaluated separately, with the opportunity for specific feedback.

When an analytic rubric is used with Feedback Aide, the platform becomes a powerful support tool for teachers. It scores each rubric category individually and generates a full breakdown of student performance, providing a clear view across multiple skills. Just as importantly, it produces skill-specific feedback based on the language of the rubric, giving students precise and actionable guidance.

This rubric grades across English and Science standards:

  • NGSS 4-ESS3-1: Human use of natural resources and effects on the environment
  • W.4.1.A–D: Write opinion pieces with reasons and support
  • RI.4.1: Refer to details and examples in a text
  • RI.4.8: Explain how an author uses evidence
  • L.4.1–L.4.3: Use correct grammar and vocabulary
