Donating today to help the innovators of tomorrow

“Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance.”

In April Learnosity attended the ASU+GSV Summit in sunny San Diego. A major event on the yearly edtech calendar, the summit brings together some 4,000 industry leaders to discuss ways to improve learning and help create more positive career outcomes for future generations.

This year, to get attendees to engage in contributing further to the education community, we offered to donate $1,000 to one of three charities we’d identified as great causes:

• AdoptAClassroom.org
• Anita Borg Institute
• Change People

Summit attendees were given the chance to vote for the charity that most resonated with them and despite it being a close call, AdoptAClassroom.org emerged as the most popular choice.

AdoptAClassroom.org: Helping teachers to help students

A non-profit organization founded in 1998 and based in the US, AdoptAClassroom.org helps teachers to purchase classroom supplies by allowing the public to make direct donations. Their research indicates that as much as 60% of classroom supplies are paid for by teachers out of their own pockets.

The charity allows teachers to register their classroom to the organization’s website, which enables people to donate to registered teachers with 100% of all donations going directly to them.

We made our donation to the AdoptAClassroom STEM fund, which supports science, math, engineering, and computer science classrooms across the country.

This is an area of learning we’ve covered a number of times in the past on our blog – particularly the wide disparity in participation between boys and girls (see the articles below for more).

We hope that our donation will help to give the innovators of tomorrow what they need in order to succeed in school today.
